Surrendered. Performance; balloons, nails, wood, Performance dimensions vary, 2016.
A performance piece symbolizing the unbearable weight those suffering with mental illness have lingering above, as well as the constant fear, anxiety, and the proximity of at any moment being completely exposed as and judged for their battle with mental health. In this personally life-changing piece, I demonstrate an acceptance of those burdens as I allow them to come crashing down. Therefore, letting go of my fear of the utter vulnerability associated with my past mental health experiences. In this performance I unshamedly surrender myself to the scrutiny of social stereotypes and embrace the reality that our struggles make us who we are.
